Pretties!

I am so happy to be updating again, and with news! The website has lots of new stuff on it – including an excerpt of Revealed, my next book, coming out in March 2009! Revealed is about Phillippa Benning, a very vain, self-centered, and yet curious social butterfly who stumbles on not only a notorious English spy, but a nefarious plot against England.

Phillippa was a complete joy to write, because she gets to say and think all those little self-involved things that nobody gets to express. Her confidence gives her the bravado to get away with almost anything, and I, strangely, found myself jealous of that (writers are, by definition, cripplingly self-conscious).

And Marcus, the man Phillippa finds herself mixed up with, sets himself apart from her legions of pursuers by the fact that he isn’t taken in by her nonsense. He refuses to admire and flatter her in the ways she’s accustomed to – instead, he finds himself in awe of her character, her almost accidental acts of kindness, and her mischievous mind. Also, he’s got that whole ‘nefarious threat against England’ thing that he’s got to fight.

But the most awesome thing? THE COVER. I really have no input on what the cover of my books will look like, and I have been beyond pleased both times with what the Berkley artists came up with. I love the color, I love the mood it sets — don’t you think its pretty?

So give the excerpt posted on my website a read, and enjoy Revealed! The countdown to March begins in 5… 4… 3…

The day to day

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

I have to say, these past few weeks of sending Compromised out into the world have been great. But imagine my surprise when I discovered I still have to go about my life. Shocking, I know! I assumed that as a Published Author, I wouldn’t have to do the mundane things like… grocery shop. Or laundry. I mean, don’t Published Authors have people to do that for them? I shouldn’t have to go for the gym, someone should go in my place whilst I recline gracefully on my chaise and reap the benefits… no? That isn’t how it works? Sigh. Oh well.

On of the many day to day things that I have being doing is pondering the next book. Book 2 is already with my fabulous editor, so now is the time to be germinating, ruminating, perhaps even ratiocinating on Book 3. And I have some characters laid out that I like. And I think I have a story – it might need to develop a little more, but thicker plot generally (for me) comes out of the writing process. But in any case, its time to get a move on. Tomorrow is spring.

In other news, I signed up to go to the RWA National conference in San Francisco this summer! I’ve never been to a national conference before, so I’m very excited and deeply nervous. If anyone has been and can offer advice, my ears are open…

Happy writing –
