As I sit here on my sister’s couch, watching football with her, as her husband fetches and cooks, I come across that rare realization that all is right with the world. I’m where I want to be with the people I want to be with, doing what I want to do. And therefore, I would like to present to you my list of what I’m Thankful for this gluttonous holiday.
(Side note: I’m gonna skip over family and friends, because, yeah, they’re handy, and obviously I’m thankful for them. But this list is for what I’m TRULY thankful for.)
1. A solid internet connection. Too often I find myself in the land of No Wifi, and the withdrawal symptoms are ugly and painful. It hurts me. It hurts me to my core.
2. That the Muppets exist. Specifically, that they exist doing this:
3. Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans. I may have won only three games so far in my fantasy football league, ranking me second to last, but Chris Johnson is the reason I managed to win those three games.
4. That my 4-year-old niece knows all the words to “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” thanks to Beatles Rockband. I now have hope for future generations.
5. That my third book, The Summer of You, will be released in April 2010 (*cough* shameless plug*cough*)
And lastly…
6.That Thanksgiving calories don’t count.
7. … they don’t, right?
Happy thanksgiving, happy reading everyone, and be sure to be thankful for the important stuff!
Been busy writing this weekend – and unpacking, since I’m back from my travels — so I don’t have a lot to report, but I wanted to share with you my new favorite way to kill time: www.textsfromlastnight.com. It’s what it sounds like – a bunch of texts submitted after nights that are either incredibly good or horrendously bad – and the line between the two is subject to interpretation. Fair warning – not for kids. OK, back to my WIP, as always, Happy Reading everybody!
In my life, especially around the holidays, one inevitably leads to the other. Bourbon Balls are holiday cookies, except they’re not really cookie-like, they are balls of chocolate held together by sugar and bourbon. So is it any wonder I have spent an inordinate amount of time today arranging a playlist for the gym? I have a surprising number of White Stripes songs… maybe I should throw in some Led Zeppelin, just for good measure.
I adore the holidays, the presents and family and totally allowable excess of sugary treats, but I’m very glad they are almost over. Why? Because it means we are that much closer to the release dates for Compromised’s second run and Revealed’s first. It also means that I am making headway on the next, which will be a 2010 release. And 2010 is now a mere year away….
I delight in the changing for the seasons. My sinuses don’t — however, that does not deter me from enjoying the clarity of the air, the crisping of leaves, the sudden unsquelchable desire to go apple picking. Seriously, what am I (a single person who lives alone) going to do with a bushel of apples? I’m sorry, but due respect to all pie eating contest winners, but I do not have your stamina, and to all the bakers out there, your expertise.
But, while I daydream over mixed plaids and pumpkin based soups, I am happy to tell you I have been offered a contract for a new book! So now instead of puttering over my text, I am going to buckle down, and work. Write. Raise my level of output. Work every night, weekend, holiday, morning coffee break, until the draft is done.
I have decided t make a proclamation. On this, the Tuesday after Labor Day, I proclaim that every weekend should be a three-day weekend. I get so much more done!! Not only did I do laundry, but I watched all of the first season of Heroes. Of course, this isn’t the whole of my three day weekend, but it was certainly nice to have room for it, amid all the writing I try to squeeze in on the weekends.
Speaking of writing (you know, since its what I, like, do) I will be at Tiffany James’ Armchair Heroines blog Wednesday (tomorrow) – so stop by and say hello!
